About the Authors
Margaret Holden worked with nonprofit corporations in a management role and as a consultant, and also helped individuals with choices as a career counselor. She has chaired and participated in a number of nonprofit boards. She lives in the Champlain Islands in the summer and in Hope Town, Bahamas, in the winter, biking, hiking, swimming and, of course, kayaking—in short, anything outdoors. In addition to coauthoring two kayaking guidebooks, Margaret coauthored the Women’s Job Search Handbook.

Catherine Frank is a former long-time Community College of Vermont instructor, computer consultant, and Web site designer. She has been a member and chairperson of numerous nonprofit boards on the local and regional level. A forty-five-plus-year summer resident of the Champlain Islands, she enjoys biking, hiking, kayaking, swimming, and paddle boarding. She has hiked the length of Vermont’s Long Trail. Now retired, Catherine is still involved in local bike-pedestrian issues and tries to spend as much time as possible on or near Lake Champlain.

Together Margaret and Catherine have circumnavigated Lake Champlain and coauthored A Paddler’s Guide to the Champlain Valley: Exploring the Rivers, Creeks, Wetlands and Ponds (Black Dome Press, 2015). Margaret's and Catherine’s travels on Lake Champlain have been featured as presentations before numerous organizations, on television, and in the local press. Both women are committed to promoting a heightened awareness of Lake Champlain and its tributaries strengths and challenges.
